Want to better understand what mental health crisis resources are on the back of your student ID? You're in the right place!

 

Below are resources that can help you or a friend in a time of a mental health crisis. They will connect you to professionals that you can call or text, whichever you are more comfortable with. These professionals are trained to help during a mental health crisis and will keep your conversation confidential. Remember, your school also has people that can help and care about you. If you need to talk to someone in person you can always go to a trusted adult like a teacher, coach, school resource officer, school counselor or school social worker. 

What is a Mental Health Crisis?

A mental health crisis is a situation where a person's thoughts, emotions, or behaviors lead to a dangerous or overwhelming state, potentially causing harm to themselves or others.

Mental Health Crisis Resources

These resources have been endorsed by the DuPage County Health Department and the DuPage County Regional Office of Education: 

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
  • Crisis Text Line: Text REACH to 741741 from anywhere, anytime. Crisis Text Line is here for any crisis. A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment. 
    • The Codeword "REACH" is unique to DuPage and allows us to gather important data pertaining to mental health issues DuPage County residents are facing. All data that is collected is anonymous and de-identified. Having data specific to DuPage allows us to address issues specific to our area. 
  • DuPage County Health Department Crisis Line: Behavioral Health Services provides a wide range of services for DuPage County residents who are experiencing symptoms related to mental health or substance use, which may be impacting your daily life. Our staff work with you to develop goals that best meet your needs and improve your overall health and well-being. Individuals experiencing a crisis can contact Crisis Services at 630-627-1700, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 
  • Safe 2 Help Illinois: 24/7 program for students to share school safety issues, find resources to get help and find encouragement to help others.
