You Are Not Alone – Help Is Just a Text Away

When you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling with painful emotions, or facing a crisis, support is available 24/7 through the Crisis Text Line. Text REACH to 741741. Your opening message can say anything, even something as simple as “Hi”. This free, confidential service will then connect you with a trained Crisis Counselor who is ready to listen and provide support, anytime, anywhere.

What to Expect

  1. Immediate Connection: After sending a text, you'll receive two automated messages confirming that help is on the way and inviting you to share a bit more about your situation.
  2. Connect with a Crisis Counselor: A trained volunteer Crisis Counselor will respond, usually within a few minutes. The Crisis Counselor is a trained volunteer, not a professional. They can provide support, but not medical advice. It usually takes less than five minutes to connect you with a Crisis Counselor, although it may take longer during high-traffic times.
  3. Judgment-Free Conversation: The Crisis Counselor will listen to your concerns, offer empathy, and help you navigate your situation. Conversations typically last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. You never have to share anything you don’t feel comfortable sharing.
  4. Receive Coping Strategies & Resources: Depending on your needs, the counselor may help you explore coping strategies or provide resources for additional support.

Ending the Conversation

Once you feel calmer and more in control, the Crisis Counselor will help you wrap up the conversation. They may offer additional resources or strategies to help you beyond the chat. The goal is to ensure you feel heard, supported, and better equipped to handle what’s ahead. After the conversation, you’ll receive an optional survey about your experience. This helps them help you and others like you!
